Method:

Recent events have moved many pieces of work life online – including how we manage our careers and the overall nature of the job application process. Career planning and development is concerned with your target goals and the pathways of getting there. In academia, there are many moving parts from finding the right supervisor to funding to collecting industry experience. This workshop will give a participants a systematic approach to planning their career and how to manage their goals on their way to achieving them.
As a second part, we will focus on finding a job. The job application process can seem like black box – with application materials going in one end and the job offer coming out the other. Applying an evidence based approach, this workshop will provide insights into the selection process as well as opportunities to identify and practice stages of the job application. Backed by the latest research, this workshop will apply a hands-on approach to learning about the selection process. The participants will be exposed to practical information, including how to present themselves in a job talk as well as the science behind personnel selection.
Before the workshop, the participants will be contacted via email to collect their specific expectations. The workshop is structured for two days tailored to the specific needs of the participants. The two-day workshop will be highly interactive with a heavy emphasis on practice in an online format – using evidence backed by empirical research.
